Yolanda and the Thief (1945)

Johnny Riggs, a con man on the run, finds himself in the Latin-American country of Patria. There, he overhears a convent-bred, wealthy young woman praying to her guardian angel for assistance with her complicated business affairs. Riggs decides to pose as the girl's "angel," winning her trust and helping himself to her fortune. However, as he and his partner prepare to escape Patria with their ill-gotten gains, Riggs realizes he has fallen in love with the girl. He returns the money, along with a note that is part confession and part love letter. Their subsequent attempt to flee Patria proves far more challenging than expected.
