The Catered Affair (1956)
At breakfast, Jane announces that she and Ralph are getting married the following week. The couple wants only a small wedding with immediate family and no reception, since Jane's parents are poor and Jane and Ralph can only afford to borrow a car for their honeymoon. However, that evening at dinner, Ralph's parents discuss the elaborate weddings they gave their daughters, and soon the simple ceremony balloons into a grand affair with hundreds of guests. The problem is that Tom, Jane's father, has spent twelve years saving to buy his own taxi and license, but now all his savings are being funneled into a wedding that neither he, Jane, nor Ralph truly want.
