The Amazing Adventure of Ernest Bliss (1936)
Ernest Bliss (Cary Grant), a wealthy socialite, finds himself bored with his privileged life. To prove his independence, he wagers with the esteemed Dr. Sir James Aldroyd that he can survive for a year without using any of his inherited wealth. Challenges arise when he falls in love with Frances Clayton (Mary Brian), a woman facing poverty and the prospect of an unhappy marriage of convenience. In an effort to save her, he draws upon his fortune, ultimately risking and losing the bet for £50,000.
