Ride Out for Revenge (1957)
Set in 1868 in the Dakotas, "Ride Out for Revenge" follows Cheyenne Chief Yellow Wolf and his son Little Wolf, who leave their struggling village and journey on foot to the army post in Sand Creek. Their mission is to ask the local army commander, Captain George—a cowardly, heavy-drinking Cavalry officer—for food, clothing, and horses to survive the coming winter. The Cheyenne, honoring a treaty, have no firearms and are unable to hunt for food. Captain George coldly dismisses their needs, insisting his orders are to move the Cheyenne from their native Black Hills to a reservation in Oklahoma. Yellow Wolf refuses, proposing a trade: he will reveal the location of newly-discovered gold in return for a promise his people can remain on their land. Although George agrees, he sends Garvin to intimidate Yellow Wolf. Tragedy strikes when Garvin kills the chief, propelling Little Wolf to vow vengeance on the town. Marshal Tate, secretly in love with Yellow Wolf's daughter Pretty Willow, urges the townsfolk to allow the Cheyenne to stay. His warnings of impending retaliation are laughed off, and he is forced to resign. That very night, Little Wolf’s warriors raid Sand Creek, stealing guns and horses and killing several people. With the town vulnerable and facing destruction, ex-marshal Tate must find a way to save the townspeople before the Cheyenne return.
