Miranda (1948)

When Dr. Paul Martin's wife shows no interest in fishing, he takes a solo holiday to the Cornwall coast. There, he encounters Miranda, a real mermaid, and is pulled into her underwater cavern. Miranda keeps Paul captive, releasing him only after he agrees to take her to London, disguised as an invalid in a wheelchair. He brings her to his home for a month, enlisting the eccentric Nurse Carey to care for her. Carey is thrilled to work for a mermaid, and Miranda quickly captivates the household. Her seductive charm attracts not only Paul, but also his chauffeur Charles and Nigel, the fiancé of Clare's friend Isobel—leading to romantic complications and jealousy among the women. Eventually, Clare discovers Miranda's true nature and insists on informing the public. Sensing danger, Miranda escapes and is last seen on a rock, cradling a merboy.
